John Stolowski basks in the announcement that he has just won a new Mercedes-Benz auto. Kim Snyder, dressed as Marty McFly, and Paul Mellott, as Dr. Emmet Brown, are seen behind Stolowski.

Paul Mellott, ROCKPAC chairman, led the 2015 ROCKPAC fundraising efforts to a record-breaking $625,000, which tops last year’s result of $581,925 by 8%.

“Success in the policy arena requires strong grassroots and political involvement. The more who join NSSGA and participate, the more we can influence federal laws and regulations” said Mellott.

“ROCKPAC provides the means that helps to influence our representatives in Washington to ensure the sustainability of our company and our industry,” said Hal Williford, Memphis Stone & Gravel

The 2014 Annual Report of National Stone, Sand & Gravel (NSSGA) notes stated “[i]n the recent election cycle, ROCKPAC was the leading construction materials political action committee and was in the top three percent of all trade associations. NSSGA raised more than $1 million for the 2014 election and continues to grow its political clout every year.” NSSGA plans to grow ROCKPAC more vigorously and aims to become a $2-million-PAC in the next several years.

The results of this year’s record fundraising were announced at the ROCKPAC reception which coincided with the NSSGA Annual Convention in late March 2015. The reception usually features a fun theme that is channeled by Paul Mellott and Kim Snyder, who also serves on the ROCKPAC committee. The 2015 theme was “ROCKPAC to the Future”, which played on the “Back to the Future” movie trilogy. Snyder and Mellott portrayed, respectively, the characters of Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett Brown, inventor of the flux capacitor, which makes time travel possible.

Reception attendees are awarded door prizes of varying value. John Stolowski, a Mellott employee, took home the grand prize of a Mercedes-Benz automobile. Jim Levy, Mellott operations manager, took home a $1,000 shopping spree prize.

The grand prize was sponsored by Astec Companies; Telsmith; BTI; KPI-JCI; AMS; Austin Powder Company; Caterpillar, Inc.; Deister Machine Company, Inc.; John Deere Construction & Forestry Company; Lehigh Hanson; Luck Stone Corporation; Martin Marietta Materials, Inc.; Metso; NSSGA; Oldcastle Materials, Inc., and; Vulcan Materials Co.

Mellott employees, as a group, also earned an award for being among the top three contributors. Money donated to ROCKPAC is raised by individuals as companies are excluded from contributing.
