ALEXANDRIA, VA— Raising $474,000, the political action committee of National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association, ROCKPAC, set a new record at its March 19 reception. This amount eclipses the previous record of $469,000, set in 2011, and ensures that the aggregate industry’s political voice continues to be heard loud and clear in Washington, DC.

For the third consecutive year, ROCKPAC raised more than $450,000 through its annual event at the NSSGA convention. ROCKPAC donors purchased 1,860 tickets to the event at the Buckhorn Saloon & Museum in San Antonio, TX.

This year’s theme for the event, “ROCKPAC Rodeo,” played on the venue (a famed hangout of Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders) and the convention host state with Paul Mellott and Kim Snyder again serving as the evening’s hosts. With a “Hi-yo, Silver! Away!” Mellott and Snyder entered the room dressed as the Lone Ranger and Tonto to kick-off the evening’s festivities.

Prior to the drawing for the Grand Prize, Snyder announced the 2013 ROCKPAC Industry Leader awards to the companies that raised the most money through their employees. Those honored included Martin Marietta Materials, New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Inc., and Rogers Group, Inc.

The crowd grew excited as the ten finalists were selected and then, one-by-one, sent back to their seats one-by-one as they were eliminated. Finally, with only two tickets remaining, the last ticket was drawn, and Mike Jones of Martin Marietta was the last man standing, emerging as the winner of the 2013 Mercedes.

NSSGA again would like to thank everyone who participated in the event, from the contributors to the prize sponsors. The next ROCKPAC will be held in Las Vegas in 2014! A complete list of sponsors, door prizes and winners may be obtained from NSSGA.
