Mellott Company goes tobacco-free January 1, 2014

Aug. 14, 2013

Because we recognize the health hazards caused by tobacco use, Mellott Company is providing a tobacco-free workplace for all employees and visitors. This approach covers the smoking of any tobacco product and the use of oral tobacco products or "spit" tobacco, and it applies to both employees and non-employee visitors of Mellott Company.

It is Mellott Company’s desire to take a proactive approach toward promoting healthy lifestyles.  This requires a shift in perspective, as health and wellness will become the focus.  We believe, like many other employers, that encouraging healthy lifestyles can foster substantial benefits, including healthier and happier employees and healthcare related savings. Tobacco use, in any form, is detrimental to health and wellness; can significantly impact the potential healthcare an individual may need throughout a lifetime; and contributes significantly to healthcare costs.

We invite everyone to join our efforts as we strive to improve the health and wellness of our employees and their families, and reduce health-related costs for employees and the Company.

This practice will include all company-owned or leased property.  The term “tobacco-free” means no cigarettes, no smokeless tobacco (e.g. snuff, chew, pouches, etc.), or related products.

The success of this policy will depend on the thoughtfulness, consideration, and cooperation of smokers, nonsmokers, and tobacco users.  All employees share in the responsibility of adhering to and enforcing this policy.

We encourage you to quit using Tobacco for your own health and the prosperity of your families.  If it is your desire to quit using tobacco there are helpful programs, information, and resources available through our health insurance program  We will also be sharing and providing information on cessation throughout the remainder of 2013 through a variety of venues:  meetings, articles, and communications.
