Mellott Rocked the PIA Careers Fair
Bailey Mills & Tyler Elbin
Mellott, like many other companies nationwide, has faced a shortage of workers in recent times. So, it was a relief to see so many professional students ready to enter their chosen career fields while participating in the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA) in Hagerstown, MD. PIA has about 100 students enrolled, and they all spoke very highly of the school, programs, and faculty. Tony Rea said, I love the program, it’s an excellent foundation to have and has prepared me for entering my career field.”
Per the PIA website they were ranked by Forbes as the No. 1 Top Two-Year Trade School in 2018, and have produced top notch aircraft and avionics technitians that have entered the workforce in aviation maintenance, electronics, and other related fields since 1929. PIA is one of Hagerstown’s hidden gems, boasting a 95% placement rate for their graduates. Their careers fair aids in that high placement and gives employers a chance to engage with potential candidates. “Our students were exposed to employment opportunities with 22 companies from all over the U.S. including Mellott. The opportunity for students to see and talk to employers is invaluable. The students’ transferable skills are very much in demand with both aviation and non-aviation companies.” said Butch Adams, Campus Director at PIA’s Hagerstown Campus. One of the 22 employers there, CommutAir’s Senior Recruiting Specialist, Kwasi Bandoh, spoke very highly of the school in its entirety and how he is continually impressed with the students overall.
Representing Mellot at the PIA Careers Fair were Bailey Mills, Product Support Assistant Sales Manager and Tyler Elbin, Process Engineer. Bailey and Tyler agreed there was a great turnout, and that all the students were both professional and extremely knowledgeable regarding their fields of study. “We teach more than technical skills at PIA. We offer extensive Career Services to prepare students for the job search from building resumes to interviewing skills all with the goal of helping them land their dream job,” said Janet Heim, PIA Campus Coordinator in Hagerstown.
